Love

Love.
What do I think of when I think of love?

My Grandmother holds a very, very special place in my heart. Without her I would not be the person I am today. She has loved me unconditionally and with her whole heart since the day I was born. There really are no words to describe how much she means to me. As she gets older the thought of impermanence creeps in, and my heart feels heavy. The memories, and photographs of her may be all I have someday. It's overwhelming. I don't like to think about things like that.
When I see my Grandmother and my son together, those thoughts disintegrate into joy. Joy in knowing my son feels the same true unconditional love. Joy in seeing the love within my son so apparent and shining. Joy in knowing they have the opportunity to create memories of their own.
Our time is valuable. The second ring on my Grandmothers hand is proof of that. It belonged  to her mother. Her mother, my Great Grandmother, cared for my Great Grandfather as long as I knew her. He had an aneurism before I was born, and her love for him never wavered. Day and night she was by his side. One of her favorite things to do used to be telling me stories of how they met, and how handsome he was. I have a locket that belonged to her with his picture inside. It will stay there as long as it is mine.
so.
Love. What do I think of when I think of love? I think of how valuable it is. I think of how important it is. I think of my son, and my grandmother. I think of so many people, and so many reasons why love today, creates every memory worth keeping tomorrow.

Feeling mushy? Head on over to Caren's blog and feel the love she's sharing this week.
